We provide another sustainable technology for agriculture: the Zero Energy Cold Storage (ZECS). The ZECS offers a sustainable solution to the post-harvest glut situation in Nepal as well as many developing countries. This technology is both low in cost and sustainable for all types of farmers including small and marginal farmers. This technology aims to disseminate and adopt a package of practices for quality production and for value addition of horticultural commodities, increasing household income in hills of the hill farmers. This technology will have the following benefits:
It enhances the shelf-life of fruits and vegetables, increases the farm income by reducing stress sale and post-harvest glut situation of fruits and vegetables; increases the availability of the fruits and vegetables during off-season.
NFI can train farmers and stakeholders for construction of ZECS and the adoption of the technology.
